About me

I have been teaching since 2011 and I pride myself on being an inspiring, dedicated and fun teacher of the highest quality. I started learning to play the flute aged 7, and have since achieved Grade 8 flute, oboe, and theory, as well as Grade 5 piano and singing. I have a 2.1 degree in Music from the University of York, and a Masters with Distinction in Community Music. I teach singing, flute and music theory from beginner to advanced level as well as beginner piano. I have recently returned fully to teaching following maternity leave, therefore I have some availability for new pupils.

I enjoy seeing my pupils improve and achieve their goals, whether this is gaining grade 5 with distinction or understanding for the first time that a crotchet equals two quavers. I incorporate music theory throughout my practical teaching to ensure that pupils develop overall as musicians. I believe that there are so many things to be gained from studying music and people of varying abilities gain quite different experiences. I see each pupil's learning as an exciting challenge and am highly motivated by seeing them enjoy themselves at the same time as developing new skills. At the heart of all my teaching is the fact that music should be fun - I have experienced my own fair share of teachers over the years and I undoubtedly improved most when I enjoyed my lessons.

I offer a free half-hour taster session so that you can decide it I am the right teacher for you or your child. Please get in touch if you are interested in lessons - I am flexible and happy to chat about what suits you best.
